African Small Publishers’ Catalogue 2016
The book contains listings of well over 40 different publishers. There are useful resources for writers and publishers. The back of the catalogue contains articles and short essays about the publishing scene in mostly, but not only Anglophone Africa. There are also items and innovations that are of interest to writers, booksellers, publishers, librarians, and all of those who are interested in the world of African publishing and book development.
As well as being a writer, Colleen Higgs is also a publisher, she started the ground-breaking independent southern African women’s press, Modjaji Books in 2007. Looking for Trouble is her first collection of short stories. The collection was translated into Croatian as Tražeći nevolju. She also has two collections of poetry Lava Lamp Poems (2011) and Halfborn Woman (2004) published by Hands-On Books. In 2020, her memoir of caring for her mother in the last ten years of her life, my mother, my madness was published by deep south.
She was recognised for her work in publishing by the Mail and Guardian, and was featured in their Book of Women 2011 in the Arts & Culture category.
She lives in Cape Town with her daughter, a dog and a cat.
