Helen Moffett is a freelance editor, author and academic. She has lectured as far afield as Trinidad and Alaska, but calls Cape Town home. Strange Fruit is her first collection of her own poems.

“In this reflective collection Helen manages to capture images of loss, ageing and infertility that are at once funny, heartbreaking and thought-provoking. A love of nature shines through on every page and our thoughts are allowed to transcend the urban spaces we occupy. The poems are honest, forthright and powerful. Join Helen on this expedition of the senses.”
The Book Lounge, Cape Town
“Your voice sparkles with humour and passion and is blessed with intelligence, incredible clarity and verve.”
Yaba Badoe, writer and documentary film-maker, UK
“There are many poems which ensure that it is worth the reader’s while to consume Moffett’s clear and lucid writing. The lasting impression is that this collection, just like the first pomegranate of the season, is a debut at heart, but one that holds much promise and potential for the anthologies to come.”
Grace Kim, LitNet
“This slender volume of poetry seduced me before I’d even opened it… From the exploration of a parallel life to the unexpected joys of nature, this volume packs punch after punch. It deserves a second read.”
Judy Croome
The book is small, but mighty. Raw honesty, broken up for all to view – making the cover of the book very apt.”
