Modjaji Books has been invited to the inaugural Central Book Festival by Trevor Mokeyane to be held in Mangaung/ Bloemfontein over the Heritage Day weekend in September. Anne Schlebusch and her novel Bloomer, are to be featured at the festival in BLOOMfontein. We will have a stand so our titles will be on sale too! If you are in the area, do come along. Apart from us, there are going to be some big names, like Fred Khumalo and Antjie Krog. I’ll be talking about publishing and doing a writing workshop for teens.
I’ve been longing to do a road trip, and now an opportunity has arisen, the invitation couldn’t have come at a better time for me. Driving there allows us to accommodate boxes of books for the stand. We are going to stop at Richmond on the way and will be in Clarens for an event at the Bibliophile bookstore on the 21st September. Watch our social media for more details.
Spending some time in the Free State feels like going home. I grew up in Lesotho, and went to boarding school in Bloemfontein, but also lived briefly in Welkom, Wepener, and Ladybrand. My father was born in Zastron and grew up on a farm near there called Richmond. So I have a lot of history there.
Anne lived near Viljoenskroon in the Northern Free State for a while so she also has a feel for the mines and farmlands of the area too.
