More about Joan Metelerkamp
Joan Metelerkamp is the author of seven books of poems: Towing the Line (1992), Stone No More (1995), Into the Day Breaking (2000), Floating Islands (2001), Requiem (2003), Carrying the Fire (2005), and Burnt Offering (2009). Her eighth book, Now the World Takes These Breaths, is due out in late 2013 to be published by Modjaji Books. Joan graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1978 with a postgraduate actor’s diploma. She has worked as an actress, a lecturer, an editor of a poetry journal (New Coin 2000-2004), and as a mother, wife and poet. She lives on a family farm in the Southern Cape with her husband.
As Joan’s publisher, I am utterly grateful to Tina Barsby and Johanna Fausto for helping me set up this reading for Joan in Boston. Joan is visiting her daughter, who lives there now. Through a range of help via friends on Facebook and via email, the whole event has been arranged. Thank you to all involved.
