South Africa may be in lockdown, but the Modjaji Books team is still working hard to introduce you to your new favourite book. We hope you are staying safe and coping with the challenges of lockdown.
As you know it is a challenging time for those in the book trade internationally, and also here in South Africa. Different parts of the chain have shut down – printers, bookstores, couriers, office supplies. So while we are in lockdown the selling and distribution part of our work has ground to a halt. Along with all of you we look forward to things opening up again, but only when it is safe to do so.
Ebook availability
Our online store is shut for the duration of the lockdown, but you can find many of our titles as ebooks over at African Books Collective. Keep reading and stay sane.
For example for our international readers, Barbara Adair’s new book, WILL, the Passenger Delaying Flight… is available from African Books Collective. The e-book version will be available soon.

Submissions are still open
Why not spend the extra time during lockdown finishing that manuscript you’ve been working on? We are looking for fiction (novels and short stories) and non-fiction (memoirs, biographies, narrative non-fiction, essays) in this submission period, which is open until the 30th of April 2020, so you still have time to get your manuscript in.
